RWS Campus: nurturing the localization talent of tomorrow

SDL Campus

At RWS, we believe that the next generation of localization professionals are key to supporting the future direction of the industry. As a world-leading language services provider and developer of industry-preferred localization software, we want to actively contribute to the localization community, by facilitating and participating in the training of the future generation of talented professionals. This commitment inspired us to launch RWS Campus, our free, global university program dedicated to nurturing tomorrow’s localization talent.

With RWS Campus, our aim is to foster partnerships with universities worldwide and share our professional expertise with students and lecturers to bridge the gap between the academic world and the workplace. We currently partner with more than 700 universities globally and support students in over 80 countries. Through RWS Campus, we provide our university partners with the latest Trados technology free of charge for classroom teaching, so that students can learn in a way that mirrors professional workplace scenarios.

As part of our program, we run internships both in person and remotely across various localization roles including translation, project management, audiovisual localization and technical services, allowing students to develop key skills in a range of areas through on-the-job training. We also partner with academic institutions on in-person and online events, tailored workshops, training sessions and lectures as well as attend university job and careers fairs to enable students to gain further insight and understanding of the localization industry. In 2023, we held over 100 events in more than 30 countries and connected with over 2000 students. Additionally, we collaborate closely with universities to enhance their curriculum development, offering consultancy and tailored guest lectures to support the alignment of teaching with the realities of the evolving industry. RWS Campus Online 2024 Event

We are delighted to announce the third edition of our flagship event, the RWS Campus Online 2024 conference, taking place on the 29 and 30 of April. This free, two-day online event is tailored for students, recent graduates, and university lecturers who are interested in the world of localization and are preparing students for roles in the localization industry. Over these two days, attendees will have a chance to hear from 45 industry experts across 30+ sessions as they share their insights into the latest tools, trends and opportunities in localization.

The event will explore how the fusion of artificial and human intelligence through Genuine IntelligenceTM represents what we at RWS believe could be the future of human-machine partnerships in the language industry. We will delve into the diverse roles and skills of localization professionals today, from language specialists, project managers, quality managers to talent managers and many more as well as highlight internship and training opportunities we offer at RWS. We will also examine practical tips for using translation technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and advances in accessibility in computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.

The registrations for the RWS Campus Online 2024 Event are now open, and we look forward to welcoming students and university lecturers from around the globe as we come together to share knowledge and shape the future of localization. Please share the details if you know anyone looking at careers in localization who may be interested in learning more!
