RWS is pleased to announce the signing of a formal letter of intent with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). The agreement, signed at the 2024 S1000D & IPS User Forum in Brussels by Sang-Jae Lee, Chief of the Integrated Product Support Group at KAI, and Tim Russell-Jones, General Manager of Contenta, sets the foundation for a deep collaboration to enhance KAI’s Integrated Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) systems, beginning with the KF-21 fighter aircraft program.
RWS and KAI will work together to integrate RWS’s advanced IETM platform into KAI’s existing systems. The platform will streamline the technical documentation process across the lifecycle of the KF-21 fighter, ensuring compliance with the international S1000D standard. This will help KAI support not only domestic operations but also expand its capability to service international defense clients.
“The signing of this agreement represents a critical step in our partnership with KAI,” commented Tim Russell-Jones, General Manager of RWS Contenta. “We are excited to provide our advanced IETM platform for the KF-21 program and beyond, helping KAI enhance its technical documentation capabilities and streamline product support. This collaboration will also lay the groundwork for new innovations in the aerospace and defense sectors.”
The letter of intent includes the development of joint strategies to improve KAI's product support system, focusing on delivering next-generation digital platforms for the aerospace and defense sector. This co-operation will encompass technical research, data management improvements and efforts to implement and evolve software tools designed for the efficient management of complex aerospace projects.
“Through the KF-21 program, KAI has established itself as one of the global leaders in the IETM field by developing a Class V IETM system. Thanks to RWS’s IETM platform, we plan to continue developing next-generation solutions and implement new technologies to support our customers – both current and future. This technological capability will have a significant impact on both domestic and international markets," said Jeong-Hun Lee, IPS department director for KAI.
In addition to supporting the KF-21 program, the scope of the partnership includes exploring the future application of RWS’s IETM platform across other KAI defense programs. The goal is to create a more unified system where prime contractors and subcontractors can seamlessly collaborate.
