RWS is proud to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Datamation Group, a family-owned business that has grown into a leading provider of publishing solutions across Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Founded in 1983 by Alex Wee, Datamation has thrived over the decades, consistently delivering innovative services powered by RWS XPP. This robust partnership has enabled Datamation to excel in regulatory filings, compliance documentation, and multi-channel publishing, streamlining complex processes for their clients across diverse industries.

In the fall of 1989, 35 years ago, Alex Wee was at RWS (formerly Xyvision Enterprise) Wakefield office and met with Kevin Duffy and Brian Mulholland to discuss representation of Xyvision in the Asia region. At that meeting, a distributorship agreement was formalized. A year later, Datamation sold one of the largest Xyvision system sales outside of America installed at Times Publishing in Singapore.

Other notable success includes LexisNexis India for legal publishing, Dewan Bahasa (Language Institute) of Malaysia for Publishing over 300 titles per year, and many financial printing companies in Hong Kong and China. Datamation’s innovative spirit extended to developing a digitized Yellow Pages Directory system for both Singapore Telecom and Shinawatra Thailand, securing multi-million-dollar contracts despite tough global competition. Today, XPP is the publishing choice for financial printers on IPO production and commanding over 70% market share in Hong Kong. Alex Wee also was instrumental in closing the deal with Yamagata Japan. He brought a few Yamagata senior executives to Wakefield and they subsequently bought XPP system for their Japan operation.

As Alex Wee steps back from his day-to-day leadership role, the next generation takes the helm. Yun Zhen Wee, with advanced degrees from Purdue University and Michigan University and with his extensive education and experience in both the U.S. and Malaysia, will now lead Datamation Group as COO, continuing the family’s legacy of excellence and growth. Under Yun Zhen’s leadership, Datamation is poised to enter an exciting new phase, with a commitment to innovation and customer success.

At RWS, we are honored to have been an integral part of Datamation's journey for 35 years, contributing to their remarkable success with RWS XPP at the heart of their publishing operations. We extend our warmest congratulations to the Wee Family on this milestone and look forward to many more years of partnership and success.
